THE SINCLAIR PARK PROJECT

Built as a WWII housing project, the Sinclair Park neighborhood became predominantly populated by African-Americans due to the segregation of the time. The neighborhood felt many challenges due to isolation, lack of investment, and segregation compared to other, largely White, wartime housing developments. Cut off from public transportation, businesses and other resources, still the people living here found community, strength and togetherness. Hear their stories. See their faces. This content was created by the Black Historical Society of Kitsap County in 2004 as an interactive DVD. Kitsap History Museum shares it now to make the stories of Sinclair Park widely available. More details about the project can be found in the credits section below.
