Help Us build our new Community-based gallery
Today is Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving
This Giving Tuesday, consider supporting the Kitsap History Museum’s exciting new community-based gallery initiative. A community-based exhibit space is dedicated to showcasing exhibits that are created, curated, and inspired by the local community. Unlike traditional exhibits that are solely designed and managed by the museum itself, a community-based exhibit space actively involves and engages community members in the process of telling their own stories and sharing their unique perspectives.
In such a space, community members might contribute their own artifacts, photographs, personal narratives, or other materials that are relevant to their own unique history and culture. The exhibits often aim to capture the diverse experiences of the community, providing a more inclusive and representative portrayal of the many diverse stories that make up Kitsap County.
This approach to exhibition design fosters a sense of ownership and pride within the community, as individuals see their own contributions and those of their neighbors prominently featured. It also encourages a more dynamic and interactive experience for visitors, as they can engage with the exhibits and programs on a personal level and gain a deeper understanding of the community’s identity.
