Kitsap Mosquito Fleet
Urania
Urania was just one of the many Mosquito Fleet boats to serve Manette before an auto ferry and bridge connected Manette and Bremerton. Originally carrying freight on Lake Washington, Urania came to Manette about 1917 and was converted to passenger service, carrying shoppers and shipyard workers between Manette and Bremerton. The hull of the Urania started its life as a 58-footer, but suffered a fire in her stern. The simplest (and cheapest) solution was to cut off the burned part and put on a new transom, shortening the hull by 23 feet. Urania lived out her life as a stubby 35-footer. She was abandoned in 1943.
